Description 1.Plans, conducts and directs software engineering projects or major phases of software engineering projects, coordinating the efforts of technical support staff in the performance of work.
2.Plans, organizes, and participates with other software engineers and analysts in software development, testing, documentation and maintenance.
3.Assists in formulating engineering project requirements to meet the customer’s needs and deadlines. Develops detailed implementation plans to execute and meet project requirements.
4.Determines timelines for completing projects, coordinates with Work Group Lead and reports to the Engineering & Integration Manager on the project’s status.
5.Works closely with Engineering, Configuration Management, Quality Assurance and Operations & Maintenance to ensure proper integration of software engineering with the other disciplines involved in the project.
6.Provides technical guidance, direction and assistance to other Engineering team members.
7.Advises management, the Engineering staff and the customer on the analysis, design, development and test of software projects.
8.Reviews modifications to system software to ensure accuracy and compatibility with existing hardware and software.
9.Writes documentation in support of software development or modifications.
10.Attends meetings as required.

Other Related Duties:
Assists in preparing and maintaining ISO-compliant engineering processes and procedures. Performs other related duties as required.

Core Competencies:
In-depth knowledge of: Programming in languages such as C, C++, C#. General knowledge of: Windows 2000/XP, Visual Studio.NET, ASP .Net; Wyle Labs (Veridian) Omega, PCM, and telemetry; real-time software development; Formal software development standards and processes. Ability to: Apply the principles and techniques of software design engineering to specific projects; Write and prepare a variety of technical and user-oriented reports, manuals and other types of written communications; Effectively interact with system users; Communicate effectively in both oral and written form; Establish and maintain successful work relationships with those contacted in the performance of this position; Work in a team environment; Work under deadlines; Effectively use project planning and spreadsheet software programs such as Microsoft Project and Excel; Perform work in an ISO compliant/certified environment .

Requirements Education and Skills Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or a closely related field plus a minimum of eight years experience with software documentation, design and development experience. In lieu of Bachelor’s degree, 16 years of related experience in software documentation, design and development. Ability to effectively interact with system users and managers at all levels to obtain and provide information that will lead to efficient, effective and productive solutions to computer system problems. Ability to provide technical guidance to technicians and junior software engineers. In-depth knowledge of software development processes and systems integration. Familiarity with NASA Dryden Flight Research Center (DFRC) missions. Technical familiarity with the equipment maintained at the DFRC.

Certifications/Licenses:
Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Security Clearance Requirements:
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Government Secret Clearance
