Description
1.Performs Unix and Linux systems administration to support business production and development servers.
2.Configures and manages Linux cluster configurations including establishing and distributing the OS image for each node in the cluster, including and excluding processing nodes from the system, and establishing head and IO nodes.
3.Configures user accounts and configures user environment settings for common Unix shells.
4.Responsible for hardware configuration, performance tuning, and generation of metrics.
5.Performs upgrades and routine maintenance to hardware and operating systems.
6.Ensures that all Linux servers have the backup client and Patchlink installed.
7.Routinely verifies that backups are performed successfully and verifies integrity of the backups by restoring from backup media.
8.Responsible for mitigating system vulnerabilities.
9.Manages file systems and configuration, and provides recommendations regarding systems performance. Troubleshoots and resolves problems as they arise.
10.Provides documentation for standard configuration and workflow processes.
11.Responsible for installing the latest security patches on all systems.
12.Follows NASA 7120.7 process to manage all new projects.
13.Responsible for following the configuration control process and for maintaining current system documentation.
14.Provides support for VMWare ESX.

Core Competencies:
In-depth knowledge of: Sun Solaris 8, 9 and 10, Linux Red Hat /Fedora/SuSE/Debian, Linux Beowulf clustering, VMWare, DNS (Bind), Veritas Software including NetBackup, UNIX system security best practices, UNIX Network troubleshooting. General knowledge of: System administration for open source application servers and services: Apache/Tomcat, sshd, NFS, SAMBA, MySQL, PHP, SMTP, etc. Understanding of and ability to maintain custom kickstart and yum repositories.
Ability to: Communicate effectively in both oral and written form; Apply the principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; Establish and maintain successful work relationships with those contacted in the performance of this position; Analyze data, resolve problems and make decisions independently; Work in a team environment; Work under deadlines; Perform work in an ISO compliant/certified environment.
Skills: Strong shell and Perl scripting skills on Linux systems.
Excellent customer service skills, Interpersonal skills, Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, conflict resolution.
Requirements
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a closely related field with at least three years of related work experience with designing/developing and performing UNIX system administration duties. In lieu of the Bachelor’s Degree, a High School Diploma or High School Equivalency with at least eight years of related work experience. Ability to effectively present technical information to various audiences, ranging from the customer to the RF&ESS senior management team.
Certifications/Licenses:
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Red Hat Certification (RHCE) and/or Solaris certification (SCSA) preferred.

Work Environment, Physical and Mental Demands:
Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, prolonged sitting while using the computer and the telephone and attending meetings, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness. Ability to use a computer to input and retrieve information and data. Ability to travel as required by the Company.
