IT Support Specialist 2 (Database Administrator – Oracle 9i, 10g, or 11g)
Qualifications include: Knowledge of current database practices and standards. Ability to plan, design, develop and implement complex databases. Ability to monitor database activity and file usage, analyze data flow, output, and storage requirements.
Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related field with 4+ yrs. of experience in database architecture and maintenance. Requires 3+ yrs. Oracle 9i, 10g, or 11g experience including PL/SQL. SQL Server database experience is desired but not required. Experience with database creation techniques, DBMS, performance tuning, and relational databases is required.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Plans, designs, develops, and implements complex computerized databases, to include data definition, structure, documentation of databases, long-range requirements, operational guidelines and protection. Establishes database standards and guidelines, assuring the quality of database deliverables, and working with development teams to support database needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Monitors database activity and file usage, and ensures necessary resources are present so that databases function properly by removing or deleting old or obsolete files. Develops complex data retrieval queries and optimizes data queries within programs for performance and maintainability. Determines data to collect and analyzes information as appropriate.
2. Analyzes and determines informational needs and elements, data relationships and attributes, proposed manipulation, data flow and storage requirements, and data output and reporting capabilities for complex databases. Recommends and implements course of action based on analyses.
3. Defines logical attributes and inter-relationships and designs complex data structures to accommodate database production, storage, maintenance and accessibility to enhance performance.
4. Tests designed applications utilizing database management software and/or general programming software to enhance performance. Determines tests to use and collects appropriate data as has been established.
5. Installs, implements and supports complex systems within user base; creates and updates database installation instructions and design changes for client use.
6. Monitors and coordinates installation and upgrades of hardware and software as necessary to enhance database performance. Researches various hardware and software products; recommends solution and implements approved products.
7. Provides work guidance and leadership to less experienced personnel. Acts as technical project leader on assigned projects.
8. Utilizes standard corporate tools to record change and problem activities for tracking purposes.

Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, or related field preferred.
Four or more years of experience in database design or maintenance.

Experience working with software installation/upgrading procedures.
Experience working with file and system maintenance procedures.
Experience working with database creation techniques and database management systems (DBMS).
Experience working with performance modeling and benchmarking skills and relational databases.

WORK ENVIRONMENT, PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:
May require on-call, shift, weekend and evening work.
Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, prolonged sitting while using the computer and the telephone, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness. On occasion, light lifting may be required related to office related duties.
