ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provides support to the engineering and design staff through performing a variety of engineering tasks during the installation, maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, calibration, testing, fabrication, construction, and operation of diverse electronic/mechanical equipment and systems in accordance with engineering specifications.
Install, configure, repair and maintain various types of communications equipment to include but is not limited to SONET, ATM and Ethernet switches, microwave radios, power systems, video equipment, computers, air-to-ground radio, land mobile radio, F/O and copper plant, encryption devices, and communications management systems.
Performs or coordinates test and evaluation, check-out, and certification tasks; performs validations/ verifications of ATM and Ethernet communications systems and data encryptors.
Work typically requires a detailed understanding of the interrelationships of circuits. Applies technical knowledge of electronics principles in determining equipment malfunctions and applies skills in restoring equipment to operation. Applies advanced technical knowledge to solve unusually complex problems that typically cannot be solved solely by referencing manufacturer’s manuals or similar documents.
Must be able to work from engineering plans, system specifications, and test procedures. Works alone or with others to document system hardware, software and interconnect configurations.
Equipment repair will require knowledge and use of test equipment such as signal generators, oscilloscopes, distortion analyzers, LAN analyzers, protocol analyzers, multimeters, transmission impairment measuring sets, data analyzers, RF spectrum analyzers and RF power meters.
Proficient in use of personal computers is required for maintenance and configuration of processor based equipment.
Independent judgment will be exercised in performing tasks and a professional attitude will be required in directly interfacing with customers and vendors.
The ability to convey ideas and concepts in a clear and concise manner is required.
Responsiblities may include proper receipt, handling, inventory, accountability and transportation of classified and unclassified material and equipment. The completion of maintenance logs; supply requests and various forms required by the Air Force and Army as required.
Compliance with safety and security procedures is mandatory.
Work may be reviewed to ensure general compliance with accepted practices.
This position provides technical guidance to lower-level technicians.
Requirements
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Must possess good communication and analytical skills and working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs. Must be able to use Microsoft software such as Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Visio and Project.
WORK ENVIRONMENT, PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:
Typical office environment with no unusual hazards. Constant sitting while using the computer and the telephone and attending meetings, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness
Work is frequently required on the ranges supported by the contract. Those work assignments may require tower climbing and working in poor weather conditions. There is occasional work atop structures, and climbing towers up to 100’ to install, maintain and repair antennas, cables and associated apparatus. The lifting of heavy objects (up to 40 pounds) from ground to a height of 48 inches, walking over rough terrain, climbing up and down stairs with load, and prolonged standing and sitting is required. Some travel to the ranges on short notice is required. Travel will be via helicopter or four wheel drive vehicle.
Ability to travel as required by the Company.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Must possess a valid Nevada driver’s license.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance.
